During my Fulbright grant in Nepal, I was fortunate to be part of a collaborative exhibition hosted by my research partner, the Tharu Cultural Museum and Research Center in Chitwan, Nepal. This museum serves to uplift voices and tell the stories of the Indigenous Tharu community in Nepal, and for the first time in March 2024, the museum put on a featured exhibition at the Patan Museum in Kathmandu: the most visited museum in the country. I served as an assistant curator for the exhibition, called “Daule Daule” Translating to “Hello, How Are You?” in the Chitwaniya Tharu language. The mixed-media exhibition displayed a unique perspective into the livelihoods, culture, and traditions of Tharu people in Nepal. It was collaboratively curated and organized by a team of seven scholars, activists, and artists, five of whom are Tharu. Being part of this team was an incredible experience and has made me much more interested in museum spaces, curation, and the intersections between art, activism, and research.
